Limbo

I was gracefully resigning myself to middle-age, the thrills of being called "uncle" by anyone under 35 (from the Subcontinent, at least), mocking the kids these days who do not know the lead guitarist of Queen (hmmph!!), feeling vaguely uneasy in a pair of jeans and a T-shirt etc.

For anyone who feels old, I strongly recommend a wine-tasting tour, preferably off-season. You come back feeling like you were just in your diapers yesterday.

Yes, it is true, everything is relative. As I clambered up the coach in Waiheke (after a wonderful ferry ride out of Auckland) for my wine-tasting trip, I was vaguely disconcerted that I was probably the only person there who was more afraid of "Carpal Tunnel" than, say, "Erectile Dysfunction". This must be how Florida feels, I told myself and promptly met a couple from Florida.

Thankfully the women (it was mostly women) who conducted us around the vineyard were visually pleasing, if a bit on the taciturn farmer-y side of things. Oh well, one has to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

I ended the afternoon (after ditching the tour bus back from the last vineyard) with a glass of Syrah , reading the Great Gatsby, overlooking rolling hills and vines from a terrace in Waiheke. There is, I thought, quite a lot more to enjoy in life yet!

And then I looked up Skydiving on the guide book...
