New dangers for an old edifice

For an old country, in fact. As I leaned way over the top of the wooden barrier keeping people from the blue tiles that portray Mecca at the Aya Sofya, it and I fell with what I believe was the biggest bang since Mehmet took Constantinople in what's called The Conquest.

To their credit, the security guys came in looking surly, but as theu surmised what must have happened, in a universally understood exchange of gestures, we all smiled, shrugged and looked pityngly at the fragments of my Lumix, which I was putting into the plastic bag from the Blue Mosque, for carrying shoes.

All in all, a thoroughly eventful start to the trip.
Sent from outer space.
