Instead, today I will focus on my friend The Psychic. First, it is a loooong stretch to call her a friend, because I met her only once, through a colleague, and I am a sucker for risk-free assets.
I am of course talking about her claims of clairvoyance, with the aid of some hybrid tarot cards. I am viscerally against all this rubbish, but inebriated and unable to resist her (other) assets, I succumbed.
Well, I have to admit she has been scarily right. As these things always do, it started with "think of a woman". Poor thing, she did not realize I have an endless list, but she was rather spot on every time and after a few, I took pity on her (or got really scared) and ended it. But the point is, she was rather accurate, and not in easily guess-able generalizations, which, for any straight guy, is a rather laughably easy thing to do:
Psychic: Think of a woman
Guy: Pshaw! That's all I do all day, especially during conference calls
Psychic: She's a brunette (but of course, this is Singapore and nobody goes for redheads and freckles anyway)
Guy: YES!!! How did you guess? (beers inhibit all logic)
Psychic: You really like her but feel (slightly) guilty that you want to sleep with the Other One.
Guy: Damn, that is so right. Hey, btw, which of the Other Ones?
(And so it continues)
But I am engaging in a caricature of her. She said things that were far off the obvious track. Anyway, I hear she quit her brokerage job and decided to become a full-time psychic. If a couple more predictions come to pass, I am putting her on retainer and recommending her to all of you.
Tells you something when a trader gives up speculating and prognosticates on your future and mine for a living, doesn't it? So much for the Efficient Market Theory and Modern Portfolio Theory.

Oh... so she's quit her job to become an economist?
:)
But yes, I agree... what an amazing career switch. She must be very good at this.
