But here is my take on the generational increase in the height of Japanese people. In comparison to their fore-parents, today's Japanese youth are taller. After carefully studying them on the streets of Shinjuku and Shibuya, I have dissected the incremental height. It is as follows:
Nutrition: 10%
Not bowing as much: 10%
Renewed pride: 5%
Hair: 95%
Oh please, don't bitch about the math.
On average, the Japanese head is way bigger than, say mine. This seems particularly apparent with youngsters, and I surreptitiously observed them from behind many tall glasses of beer (including at 2 places that served Belgian).
The fact is, the heads are massive due to the addition of roughly 2 cubic meters of hair, in a bouffant yet carelessly dishevelled helmet. Particularly true of young guys. Easy 3-4 inches added right there.
